Altenew + The Daily Marker Watercolor Therapy Blog Hop & Giveaway

Hello everyone and welcome to this special blog hop. Altenew is collaborating with the amazing Kathy Racoosin from The Daily Marker to inspire crafters to find joy through coloring. Kathy is celebrating her 16th 30 Day Coloring Challenge until 5/7/2020.
I would really encourage you to check and participate in the 30 Day Coloring Challenge by coloring something and share it on social media using the hashtag #TheDailyMarker30Day. We hope you find “Me Time” and enjoy the benefits that coloring will give. Coloring is really therapeutic and a great de-stresser.
You should have come here from the talented Lisa Spangler's blog. If not start from the beginning at Altenew Card Blog
I have two projects for you today.
For my first card, I tried something new using Altenew 24 half pan Artists' Watercolor set. I used the watercolors on black cardstock and it really left me with a beautiful and vibrant effect. Normally, I would use Gouache paints but I didn't miss them here :) I used Wild Flora Stamp set.

I started by stamping the images using Versamark ink and embossed the images using WOW! Metalline Himalayan Musk embossing powder. Now, the first step is to color everything using white watercolor. Remember we have to work in layers.
Let this dry and then I used the greens, pinks and reds for the shading of the flowers and leaves. I painted them using thin strokes.

Once this was dry, I stamped and embossed the sentiment using white embossing powder. Adhere the card to a white cardbase.

For the 2nd. card, I decided to go with a mixed media slimline card.I used the same watercolor set along with the Retro Plantines stamp, Sketched Lines stencil, The frame die from the New Day card kit, Script Words Die, Fantasy Floral Die and Altenew Embossing Paste.

I started by creating the mat layer. Layer the stencil and apply embossing paste through it. Let it dry. I then added some blue and yellow watercolor wash. I die-cut the flower and the leaves and applied watercolors to it. For my flower, I used blues, turquoise and yellow and for the leaves a few shades of greens. Let everything dry.

I die-cut the frame using white cardstock and just added a splash of watered down color.
stamp the Plantines leaves and fussy cut them. Assemble the card together.
To finish, I adhered the word "HUGS" and added a few sparkles.

The next stop on the hop is Yoonsun Hur

I like both of your cards Isha. The first one on the black background really is very eye catching & beautiful. I don't know if I could achieve the same look with regular watercolours as it seems that Altenew water colours have a vibrancy & depth that is unique to them. Maybe one day I'll be blessed to have some.

Beautiful! I love the flowers on the black, it really pop's! I don't think I have any white water colour paint, but I am going to have to get some after that first card. What a pretty technique. And Slimline cards I can't get enough of right now. It is so beautiful! As a bonus I have all the supplies to make that card as well. Can't wait to try it out.

Laura said...

That first card is gorgeous. Looks almost like acrylic or oil paint with your embossed layer and adding watercolor. I never thought to paint on white embossing, but you would have to do something to make the color show on black cardstock . . . thank you!

Amber Bissonnette said...

Wow I love both of your cards!!! Especially how the florals stand out on the black, very striking!

L Young said...

Love seeing watercolor on black, beautiful.

jcamp2020 said...

You are very talented with using mixed media. And the outcome is so pretty. Complicated and not fast. That "let it dry" thing always gets me. One thinks that watercolor is quick and fast... not so much. Not if you want to produce a card like you made. Love the look. Staying home, crafting, reading, blog hopping and staying safe. Take care you all!
